The 7th Annual Kensington Miss Sun and Salsa Pageant

Sunday, July 24, 2011 Come join us as we search for Miss Sun and Salsa! This fun-filled day will include fashion shows, entertainment and of course our swimsuit, sundress and speech competition. This pageant was created for two purposes: 1. To showcase the fashions of our great Kensington clothing boutiques. 2. To have a pageant designed for the benefit and enjoyment of the contestants.

Contestant Info

The winners of the Miss Sun and Salsa Pageant will spend the year volunteering and promoting the Kensington community in city wide and community public events.

Prize Packages
Each contestant receives a prize package valued at $100 or more. Each award winner will receive an additional prize package:

2nd Runner Up: a prize package of a value of $300 or more
1st Runner Up: a prize package of a value of $500 or more
Winner: a prize package of a value of $2000 or more

Rules
1. Must be between the ages of 16-28 years old
2. Must be a Canadian Citizen
3. You must be of good moral character
4. You must not be married
5. You must live in Calgary & Area

How will Miss Sun and Salsa be chosen?

The following 4 components will decide who becomes our Royal Trio.
The contestant with the highest score will be crowned Miss Sun and Salsa.
We will also announce our Sun Princess (1st Runner Up) and Salsa Princess (2nd Runner Up).

Interview

• Judges will be looking for poise, speaking ability, overall presence, suitability of being a community representative and knowledge of the community.
• Interviews will be completed prior to the day of the pageant.

Swimsuit

• Each contestant will wear a swimsuit on stage and be judged on their confidence and stage ability/presence.
• Contestants are not judged on their physical appearance.

Sundress

• Each contestant will wear a sundress on stage and be judged on their confidence and stage ability/presence.

Public Speaking

• The top ten finalists will be asked to share their favorite motivational quote on stage and will be judged on their public speaking ability.
• The top five finalists will be asked questions on stage and they will have to give an answer between 30-45 seconds long.
• All contestants will be given a list of questions of which will be asked on stage so that they will have time to prepare an answer. Questions will be based on the Kensington community and related events.
• Each contestant will be judged on their response to the question and their public speaking ability.

(All contestants will be judged by a panel of judges from the Kensington business community and people in related fields)

• Miss Photogenic

• Miss Interview
• Miss Fashion

Frequently Asked Questions

1) If I win is it a huge commitment?

No, you would have to attend 10-15 events during the year. We will always try to give you a lot of notice as to when the events are taking place.

2) Do I have to wear a bikini?

No, you can choose to wear the swimsuit of your choice (unless swimsuits are sponsored). You can also choose to wear swim skirts, shorts or sarongs.

3) Is this a beauty contest?

No, you are judged on your poise, confidence and your ability to be a good representative for the community.
